With its commissioning End of September 2012, the EUROGATE Container Terminal Wilhelmshaven will become the third port facility on the North Sea to be operated by the EUROGATE Group – in addition to locations in Bremerhaven and Hamburg. The container terminal is being built at Germany’s only deep-water port. Adequate water depth and a short estuary channel are the locational advantages of the terminal on the River Jade. With a draught of 18 m, it will offer ideal prerequisites for the next generation of mega container vessels. As a common user terminal, all shipping lines worldwide will be able to use the terminal.

The EUROGATE Container Terminal Wilhelmshaven is planned as a transhipment port for feeder services to Scandinavia, the Baltic and Russia. Its strategic location will make it a hub for the Rhine/Ruhr region as an alternative to the North Range ports of Rotterdam, Antwerp and Le Havre.

The operating concept envisages linking the EUROGATE Container Terminal Wilhelmshaven to the intermodal network run by the EUROGATE Group. EUROGATE subsidiaries will likewise establish branches in Wilhelmshaven. Other logistics services providers have also already agreed to incorporate Wilhelmshaven into their concept. This applies in particular to feeder lines aiming to build up a feeder network.

EUROGATE is investing 350 million euros in the construction of the superstructure for the container terminal in Wilhelmshaven. In the final development phase, the terminal facility will provide approximately 1,000 direct jobs. The company APM Terminals has a 30 per cent stake in the operating company.
