Our network in the South of Europe
In 1999 one of EUROGATE’s parent companies, EUROKAI KGaA KG of Hamburg, acquired a majority shareholding in the Italian Contship Italia Group and contributed a stake of 33.4% to EUROGATE, which had just be founded.
Five container terminals in Gioia Tauro, La Spezia, Livorno, Ravenna, Salerno and Cagliari, plus the intermodal network of the transport company Sogemar, are combined under the umbrella of Contship Italia S.p.A. of Genua (Italy).
The largest terminal in our network in the South is Gioia Tauro, which handled 2.3 million TEUs in 2011. It is the leading transhipment centre in the Mediterranean, with excellent feeder connections to 60 ports in the region and to the Black Sea.
