EUROGATE Hamburg: 33,333,333 Containers in 40 Years

Hamburg, 31 August 2010 +++ Today marks a new container handling record at the EUROGATE Container Terminal Hamburg: over the past 40 years, 33,333,333 standard containers (TEU) have been handled. The jubilee container comes from the United Arab Shipping Company (UASC) and will be loaded today onto the container ship AL SAFAT, which is employed in the UASC AEC2 service between Asia, Europe and the Middle East. EUROGATE is celebrating the handling of the 33,333,333rd container together with UASC and its customer Siemens.

MSC Irene at EUROGATE in Hamburg and Bremerhaven

Bremen, 17 August 2010 +++ Having a loading capacity of 14,000 TEUs, one of the biggest container vessels in the world, the MSC Irene, will dock for the first time at the EUROGATE Container Terminal Hamburg and at MSC Gate Bremerhaven, a joint venture between EUROGATE and TIL, on 18.08.2010 and 19.08.2010 respectively. EUROGATE has in the past handled several of the MSC Irene’s sister ships and welcomes the fact that these ships will in future call at its terminals more frequently. EUROGATE has already cleared more than 150 container ships in the over 12,000 TEU size range in Hamburg and Bremerhaven, proving the high handling capacity of its terminal facilities.

EUROGATE installs photovoltaic panels

Bremen, 6 August 2010 +++ Just in time for the sunniest season of the year, EUROGATE has equipped its buildings with a total of three solar energy systems. The photovoltaic panels have a total power output of 43.1 kWp and deliver 37,000 kWh of electricity annually, resulting in a savings of 28 tonnes of CO2 per year. With the installation of these solar energy systems, EUROGATE has realised a further project in the realms of its environment strategy within a short period of time.

New from 22 July: reliable and fast via Regensburg to Budapest

Hamburg, 20 July 2010 +++ On 22 July 2010, EUROGATE Intermodal (EGIM) will launch a new rail connection from Hamburg via the Bavarian Port of Regensburg to the Budapest Free Port of Csepel (Hungary). On the Hamburg–Regensburg–Budapest corridor, EGIM offers two departures per week with a transport capacity of 96 TEUs per freightliner train. The transit time is approximately 27 hours. Demand for transport services to and from Hungary has risen sharply over the past three years. In the first half of 2010, EGIM recorded growth of 30 percent in this segment. Today, Hungary is already the third most important shipping transport partner of the Port of Regensburg, which as a member of the bayernhafen Gruppe has developed into an international logistics hub for the exchange of goods between western and south-eastern Europe. The EGIM transport system based on freightliner trains is distinguished from other systems by its particularly high degree of reliability. In the bayernhafen Gruppe, EGIM has also gained a competent logistics partner, enabling it to offer its customers tailor-made transport solutions.

Agreement: JadeWeserPort commences operations mid-2012

Wilhelmshaven/Bremen, 28 May 2010 – Differences concerning the start of operations of the deep-water container terminal in Wilhelmshaven have been cleared away: JadeWeserPort Realisierungs GmbH & Co. KG and the terminal operator have settled on the starting date of 5 August 2012. A written agreement to this effect was signed today. The Eurogate Group and its partner APM Terminals International, a subsidiary of Maersk, the world’s largest container line, sought to delay the start-up date because of the downturn in demand due to the economic situation.
